Great – I’m glad you like the glam pumpkins too Regi! Your home sounds beautiful with the coastal hues – I love those watery colors too! Orange doesn’t work well with my decor either but I love all things metallic. Thanks for visiting and sharing!

Hi Heather,
I’m a designer and stager and received much inspiration from your FALL decorating ideas. I always feel down at the end of summer but seeing your array of neutrals makes me feel that Fall decorating can be an extension of summer rather than the end! I love the white pumpkins with the jewels and your mercury glass pumpkins and candle holders. I’m also excited to try your recipes, as well as order the steel cart as a Christmas gift for my son and his wife, and the new sheets for myself. Thanks to you this rainy day has turned more exciting and inspirational!
heather says
Oh my gosh Susan! Thank you for your beautiful and thoughtful comments! Yay I’m so glad your rainy day has been picked up and I’m glad you found some inspiring ideas! The steel cart is a gorgeous Christmas gift idea for your son and his wife – what a great idea!! The sheets look amazing don’t they – I can’t wait to get my set! I love your comment about fall decorating being an extension of summer not the end – that’s exactly how I feel! I don’t want to give summer up this year – it’s been so beautiful – I’ll be decorating this weekend with my neutral Fall decor, I’m super excited since I have a fall home tour coming up soon that I’ll share on the blog. Have a beautiful weekend Susan!

Love your white pumpkin with embellishment. So pretty. I really enjoy seeing unique ideas people come up with. I am getting ready to take my first vacation in over 15 years with my Mom after medical bills and raising 2 children for most of their years and can’t wait to see the Fall landscapes that we don’t have here in Florida.
heather says
Have fun on your trip Christie – sounds like it’s been a long time coming for you! I bet you are really excited about it! I love going on fall drives to see the leaves changing too – so pretty! I’m glad you like my pumpkin DIY! Happy weekend xo Heather

Thankyou for your response. I think it’s so sweet and professional I might add that you respond to each and every comment. I am excited about my trip and am hoping to bring back some beautiful leaves and flowers from Pennsylvania. Was wondering if u knew how I could preserve them and how do u make sure of not bringing any little insects in home. Also I see online that some of the most beautiful flowers sell at places in New York and looks like only licensed florists and decorates can only get. Any ideas on how you can get them in bulk and just as beautiful on a slim budget somewhere for us people who aren’t professionals. Thankyou for all your help!!???????
heather says
Hi Christie – you can preserve leaves in a glycerin solution – I don’t know the exact way to do it but if you google ‘preserving leaves with glycerin’ you should be able to find instructions. You can also press leaves flat by laying them in between wax paper and putting books on top for some weight to flatten them. As far as not bring bug hitchhikers home – I’m not sure…maybe spraying them with a plant insecticide spray for plants? I’ve baked pinecones in the oven before to kill any bugs, but you can’t do that with leaves and flowers. Flowers you can try and dry by hanging them upside down in a dry area. As for buying flowers do an online search for ‘floral and plant wholesalers’ to find ones that are open to the public. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you for sharing your stunning creativity with your readers, Heather! I always find something inspiring on this blog. We moved to the beach this summer, which is amazing. However, I find myself with two dilemmas this year. First, I am not sure how to tie the beachy theme into the cozy autumn decor that makes my daughter so happy (and Christmastime as well). We will be starting new traditions, which is sad for my teenagers who look forward to them all year. Second, we just went gluten free. I will need to adapt your yummy looking chicken lasagne recipe with gluten-free noodles.I will let you know how it turns out. Do you have any crafty ideas of how to make a beach house (inside or out) feel like autumn? You are fantastic!
Paula says
Thanks for sharing your creative ideas. Happy Autumn.
heather says
You’re so welcome – I’m glad you enjoy them – and Happy Autumn to you too Paula! 🙂

Hi Heather,
I tried posting this comment a few days ago on the What to What to Decorate, Make and Do in September : New on Setting for Four blog, but I do not see it. Anyhow, thank you for sharing all of your immense talent with your readers! I can always find something very inspiring on your blog. I recently moved to the beach (which is amazing) but I am faced with a dilemma on how to create new autumn traditions for the holidays with my family. I love the decor you design, but I am not sure how to add pumpkins and autumn decorations into a yearound beach theme. Do you have any suggestions on how to blend the two seamlessly? My teenage daughter is struggling because the autumn/winter holidays are special because of traditions.
Also, we just went gluten free. I want to attempt your chicken lasagne with gluten-free substitutions. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again for being such a fantastic and creative person!
heather says
Hi Trish – thank you so much for your lovely comments! I’m so thrilled you find lots of inspiring ideas on my blog! Congrats on moving to the beach – I’m so jealous! 🙂 Yes I know exactly what you mean about trying to fit typical Fall and Halloween decor and colors into your home when you love coastal beachy colors. I love watery blues myself and am not a fan of ‘Fall/Halloween bright orange’. Fall colors like caramel and rust in place of bright orange look beautiful with blue beachy colors. Metallics in general are great for Fall and metallic copper accents will look nice with your coastal look. Use faux deer antlers in a bowl or on your mantel and wheat sheaves on a table to fallify your beachy home. You can make my easy DIY sparkly white pumpkins – https://www.settingforfour.com/2012/10/easy-bling-pumpkin-diy.html. I’ve used them with blue hydrangeas in mason jars on my fall table and they really look pretty! I love celebrating holiday traditions with our teen boys too! You can let your teen daughter decorate a couple of spaces (her bedroom, playroom) with traditional colors in fall pillows, fall banners and you can decorate the other rooms with your coastal style! For the Christmas holidays I have a traditional red and white decorated Christmas tree with nutcracker ornaments for our boys in one room and a white and blue Christmas tree – more my style – in our living room! So mama and kiddos are both happy! 🙂 I hope these tips help!

Thank you for your amazing creativity in helping me transition into my new home as the holidays approach, Heather! I LOVE the white pumpkins, and I know that making them with my daughter will be very fun. This could even become a tradition that we make these pumpkins to take to the various elderly care homes on the island. I just love the hues of caramel, rust, and copper. However, I had not considered how gorgeous they would look with the beachy teals, blues, and whites. I cannot wait to Tweet about your blog and share it on Facebook. You are so talented! =)
heather says
Oh I’m so glad you like my ideas and feel they’ll fit into your beachy coastal home! Yay!! The DIY glam white pumpkins will be a fabulous DIY tradition to make with your daughter and I LOVE that you plan on making them for the elderly care homes in your area! So thoughtful of you!! I hadn’t thought of that idea! I take all our decor and lifestyle magazines that we’ve finished reading to the elderly care centers in my area – the staff and the residents love reading them. The elderly gentelmen love reading the fishing/outdoor magazine that my hubby subscribes to! So glad you like my idea of adding coppery colors, rusts and caramel to your home. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR the shares of my blog – so thoughtful of you! Happy Fall Trish! 🙂
