Eliminate Frustration and Maximize Your Space with Clever Backpack Storage Ideas
Are you tired of constantly tripping over backpacks and struggling to find a proper place to store them in your home? If so, you’re not alone!
In this article you’ll find a range of creative solutions to help you maximize your space with these clever backpack storage ideas.
Say goodbye to cluttered floors and overstuffed closets by implementing these innovative solutions and transform your space into a tidy, organized oasis.
Love this gorgeous, warm white mudroom built in idea with wall hooks for backpack storage, cubbies and chic diamond pattern floor tile!
1. Create a Dedicated Backpack Station – The First Step
The first step in making efficient backpack storage in your home is to create a dedicated backpack station.
This is a designated area in your home where the kids can store all of their backpacks, shoes, jackets, hats, mitts, homework and school paperwork ect.
So everything has its place and is easily accessible.
A backpack station avoids spreading all of these items though out the home, minimizes clutter and frustration. And adds a sense of order and organization to your entire home!
It will make streamline the morning routine and make the kids’ return from school smoother too!
Pick a spot in your home that best fits your routine and layout/space of your home.
The backpack station could be in the entryway, mudroom, laundry room, by the backdoor, in the garage or even other spaces in the home. (I’ll provide more ideas on each of these locations later in the post).
I love the fresh, clean look of this white on white backpack station with white oak floors, beautiful pillows and woven, natural baskets.

Use Clear Bins for Visibility
When looking for a way to enhance your built in organization, consider using clear bins for visibility.

3. Ideas For Built In Locker Cabinets
I highly recommend adding built in locker cabinets and a bench to a mudroom if you have the space.
A locker cabinet is a practical and visually appealing solution for keeping backpacks off the floor and out of the way.
Keeping everything behind closed doors makes your home look clean and uncluttered. The kids schedules and calendars are added to the back of the doors to keep them on track of their to-do lists, chores, due dates and activities.
Adding narrow depth, floor to ceiling locker cabinets is a perfect solution for backpack storage in small, narrow entryways and mudrooms.
By designating a specific locker cabinet for backpack storage, you can ensure that each family member has their own designated space for their belongings, making it easier to grab and go.

Or hire a local carpenter to make one for you.
Hall trees not only look beautiful but they organize everything perfectly.

By utilizing wall mounted coat racks for backpacks, you can create a designated spot for each backpack in your household, making it simple for everyone to grab their belongings and head out the door.
10. Storage Ideas Using Wall Hooks
A practical and easy solution to optimize backpack storage space is to utilize wall hooks for easy access.
By mounting sturdy hooks on your walls, you can create a designated spot for each backpack, allowing for quick and convenient retrieval whenever needed.
Hanging a row of 2-4 or more matching wall hooks creates an organized, clean lined look.
This not only helps to keep your backpacks off the floor and out of the way but also adds a decorative touch to your space.
11. Opt for Over-the-Door Organizers
Another clever storage solution to consider is utilizing over-the-door organizers.
These over-the-door backpack hanger’s are gorgeous, durable and will blend right into white doors! They also come in black too. Perfect for black interior doors.
These versatile organizers can be easily hung on the back of a front closet, closet by the back door or kids bedroom door to maximize vertical space and keep backpacks off the floor.
By incorporating these handy organizers into your backpack storage setup, you can make the most of every inch of available space while maintaining a tidy, clutter-free environment.
12. Convert A Closet For Backpack Storage
Another great area for backpack storage is in a closet.
It could be the closet by the front door, a closet by the back door, a closet in the laundry room or a closet in the kids room.
By utilizing closet space, you can keep backpacks neatly stored and out of the way when not in use.
Consider installing hooks or hanging organizers inside the closet to maximize space and keep backpacks easily accessible.
Placing a cube organizer in a closet can neatly organize backpacks and shoes at the bottom of the closet while allowing coats to hang above!
This efficient storage solution in a closet not only helps keep the living space organized but also allows for a more streamlined morning routine.
13. Store Backpacks In The Kid’s Bedroom
Storing backpacks in the kid’s bedroom is a practical solution.
Consider setting up a designated area in their room for backpack storage, such as installing wall hooks or a cube shelf.
The back of the kids bedroom closet door or the back of their bedroom door can be transformed into functional storage areas for backpacks and other items.
Add an over the door backpack organizer and hooks to keep backpacks tidy and off the floor.
This way, backpacks can be easily accessed and put away by the kids themselves, promoting independence and organization skills.
14. Repurpose Unused Spaces for Storage
Another clever way to maximize your backpack storage space is to repurpose unused areas in your home for storage.
Look around your living space and identify any underutilized nooks or crannies that could serve as additional storage solutions.
The Backdoor Area
A backpack station by the backdoor with a desk is a clever use of space!
Use Space In The Garage
Another unused space is the garage!
Adding a set of hooks in the garage is the perfect spot to keep backpacks neatly stored and eliminate the clutter in the home.
15. Repurpose A Closet Into A Backpack Drop Zone
Remove a closet and add shelves, a bench and wall hooks for an instant backpack drop zone!

20. How To Store Backpacks In A Small Space
If you have no entryway or a small entry you can use narrow hall tree cabinets, 2-3 hooks or a small cube cabinet.
By utilizing vertical space, you can efficiently store your backpacks in a small space while keeping them organized.
Adding tiers of wall shelves makes great use of this garage space.
How To Store and Hang A Bunch Of Backpacks
If you have a number of kids backpacks to store, perhaps each kid has a backpack for school and a separate one for sports, don’t worry!
There are clever solutions to help you keep them organized.
This garage space solution for a lot of backpacks is beautiful and so functional. It also stores a lot of shoes too!
One effective way to manage multiple backpacks is to invest in a sturdy shelving unit, adding builtin cabinets or hall tree cabinet with enough space to store all of the backpacks neatly.
By utilizing a shelving unit with adjustable shelves and multiple hooks, you can create designated spaces for each backpack while maximizing vertical storage space.
A hall tree cabinet or built in cabinets will accommodate lots of backpacks and keep them tidy.
This will not only keep your backpacks off the floor, but also make it easy to access each one quickly.
How High To Hang Wall Hooks
For adults the design rule of thumb is to hang wall hooks 5′ above the floor.
I recommend that if you have young kids to hang wall hooks at their shoulder height so they can easily hang their backpack.
Adjust the hook height to hang scarves and long coats.
How To Store A Backpack When Not In Use
When it comes to storing a backpack when not in use, such as a seasonal sports backpack or a summer camp backpack, consider hanging them out of the way in a closet or tucked away in the basement.
Hang them on hooks, pegs, or hangers on the wall to keep them off the ground and easily accessible.
If you are storing them in a closet hang them on backpack hangers.
Where To Put Backpacks After School
I recommend having the kids put the backpacks in the backpack station immediately after school. This keeps your home tidy and uncluttered!
When the kids need to do their homework they can take their backpack to their desk area and hang it back up when they are finished!
You can easily access the backpack for school forms ect instead of searching all over for it.
This allows you and the kids to know where their backpack is at all times to make the school routine easy and stress free!
