I consider its undertone, the room’s light exposure, fixed finishes, wood tones and the mood it creates. In this expert color review, I’m sharing where Grounded can look beautiful, what to pair with it and where I would use it carefully.

What Is Behr Grounded Color of the Year 2027?

Behr officially announced Grounded (T27-01) as its 2027 Color of the Year on August 26, 2026. The company describes it as an earthy olive green that shifts between moss and olive, anchored by subtle taupe brown undertones.

Grounded also marks the tenth anniversary of Behr’s Color of the Year program. According to Behr, the shade was inspired by the restorative quality and quiet energy of nature.

That description fits what we are seeing in interior design. Homeowners are moving beyond cool gray rooms and looking for colors that feel warmer, more personal and connected to natural materials. Olive green can deliver that comfort while still looking polished.

Behr Grounded is part of the larger 2027 Color Trends Palette and is available in Behr paint lines sold through The Home Depot. Always confirm local product and finish availability before planning your project.

What Color Is Behr Grounded T27-01?

Behr Grounded T27-01 is a medium-to-deep mossy olive green with a warm brown undertone. It has more earthiness than a typical sage and less blue-gray than many eucalyptus or green-gray paint colors.

That distinction matters. A soft sage often reads airy and muted. Grounded has greater visual weight, so it can make a space feel cocooning, established and intimate.

In balanced natural light, expect it to read as an earthy olive. In warm afternoon light or beside honeyed wood, the brown undertone may become more noticeable. In low or cool light, it may appear deeper and slightly more muted.

Paint color is never seen in isolation. Flooring, countertops, upholstery, surrounding greenery and even the view through your windows can change how Grounded appears.

Behr Grounded Undertones

The dominant undertone in Behr Grounded is earthy brown. This is what separates it from cooler sage greens and blue-green paints.

Its warm foundation should help Grounded coordinate beautifully with:

  • White oak, walnut and medium-to-dark brown wood
  • Cream, oatmeal, camel and warm beige upholstery
  • Travertine, limestone and warm-veined natural stone
  • Aged brass, antique bronze and matte black accents
  • Linen, leather, wool, jute and woven textures

However, the same brown undertone may clash with finishes that are very cool, icy or blue-gray. Compare Grounded directly with your flooring, tile, countertops and large furniture before committing.

Is Behr Grounded Warm or Cool?

Behr Grounded is a warm green because of its olive character and brown undertone. However, it can look more neutral in a room with balanced light and warm natural materials.

Color tip: Never decide whether a green is warm or cool by looking at it alone. Place it beside a known blue-green and a known yellow-olive green. Comparison makes the undertone much easier to see.

My Expert Opinion on Behr Grounded

My expert design advice is that Behr Grounded is strongest when it is treated as a colored neutral, not as a random accent color.

It has enough depth to create presence, yet its natural character makes it quieter than a jewel-toned emerald or a saturated forest green. That balance suits Organic Modern, quiet luxury, transitional, modern rustic and Restoration Hardware-inspired interiors.

I especially like the way this color can bridge warm wood furniture with cream textiles and black accents. It can make new rooms feel more settled and help neutral rooms feel less generic.

However, “on trend” does not automatically mean “right for your house.” If your home has cool blue-gray flooring, icy white quartz, violet-gray upholstery or many competing green finishes, Grounded requires careful testing.

Where to Use Behr Grounded Color of the Year 2027

Behr Grounded Color of the Year 2027 can work on walls, cabinetry, built-ins, millwork and selected exterior details. The right application depends on the room’s light, size and existing finishes.

Behr Grounded Living Room

In a living room, Grounded can create an enveloping backdrop for an off-white sofa, dark wood coffee table, warm metal lighting and textural neutral decor.

For a quiet-luxury result, keep the palette edited. Repeat the green subtly in a patterned pillow, artwork or natural greenery, then layer cream, tan, brown and black around it.

Behr Grounded Kitchen Cabinets

Grounded could be beautiful on kitchen cabinets or an island when paired with warm white walls, white oak, soapstone, honed marble or warm-veined quartz.

Before painting cabinets, compare the sample with the countertop and backsplash at their meeting points. A green that looks perfect across the room can reveal an unwanted undertone when placed directly against stone.

Use satin or another durable cabinet-appropriate finish recommended for your paint system. The sheen can make the color appear slightly richer than a flat wall sample, so test the actual product and sheen whenever possible.

Behr Grounded Bedroom

In a bedroom, this mossy olive green can feel restful and cocooning. Pair it with an upholstered cream bed, walnut nightstands, natural linen bedding and warm, diffused light.

For a more immersive look, consider color drenching the walls, trim and doors. Use different sheens to create subtle dimension while keeping the hue consistent.

I love the idea of Behr Grounded in a dining room, where its earthy olive tones create an inviting backdrop for a wood dining table, upholstered chairs and a statement chandelier.

Behr Grounded Home Office or Library

Grounded is an excellent candidate for a home office, library or den because its depth creates focus and character. It would look especially polished on built-ins with warm wood, cognac leather, aged brass and off-white drapery.

If the room has limited daylight, sample it first. A color-drenched office can feel sophisticated, but the same paint may become too heavy if there is not enough layered lighting.

Behr Grounded Bathroom or Powder Room

A powder room is a lower-risk place to use Grounded boldly. Try it with a warm white vanity, unlacquered brass or antique bronze, creamy stone and a sculptural mirror.

In a primary bathroom, first compare it with the tile. Many white and gray tiles have cool blue, green or violet undertones that may not harmonize with Grounded’s earthy warmth.

Behr Grounded Front Door and Exterior Accents

Grounded may also suit a front door, siding, shutters or selected exterior details, particularly alongside warm stone, creamy siding, brown brick or natural wood.

Exterior light is much stronger than interior light and often makes paint colors appear lighter and cleaner. Test a large sample outdoors on more than one side of the house, then view it in morning, midday and late-afternoon light.

True Color Expert® Paint Color Tip: Did you know that a paint color will look 2 times as intense on interior walls and 3-4 times brighter on exteriors than the paint chip sample?!

This is due to:

  • the scale of the paint color on the walls compared to the small paint chip
  • the light reflection on painted walls
  • For exteriors- it’s due to natural light that washes out the paint color

Best Colors to Pair With Behr Grounded

The best Behr Grounded coordinating colors support its warm, earthy undertone instead of fighting it.

Warm Whites and Creams With Behr Grounded

Warm whites like Behr Blank Canvas and soft creams can create a gentle transition next to Grounded. The exact white must also coordinate with your countertops, tile, flooring and upholstery.

Natural Neutrals With Behr Grounded

Pair this olive green with:

  • Warm ivory
  • Oatmeal
  • Camel
  • Mushroom
  • Putty
  • Natural linen
  • Chocolate brown
  • Soft black

These colors create the warm, layered effect that makes Grounded feel intentional rather than themed.

Accent Colors With Behr Grounded

For added interest, consider muted clay, dusty blush, oxblood, deep brown or sage green accents. Keep saturation levels similar so one color does not visually overpower the rest.

You can also browse my curated ShopMy page for furniture, lighting and decor that fit an Organic Modern and quiet-luxury home.

Color tip: If Grounded is your dominant wall or cabinet color, repeat a related green only two or three times in smaller details. Exact matching can look forced; tonal variation looks more collected.

Wood Tones and Materials That Work With Grounded

Grounded’s brown undertone gives it a natural affinity with wood. White oak will keep the room lighter, walnut will add sophistication, and dark oak or espresso can create a moodier, Restoration Hardware-inspired look.

I would use caution with strong orange-toned woods. Grounded may still work, but the combination can amplify warmth. Add cream, soft black or natural stone to create balance.

For texture, layer the color with:

  • Honed limestone or travertine
  • Linen and bouclé
  • Aged or brushed brass
  • Dark iron or matte black
  • Woven jute or wool
  • Hand-finished wood
  • Ribbed, fluted or plaster details

Secret Design Tip You Won’t Find Anywhere Else

Here is my secret design tip: test Grounded in the room twice—once beside your fixed finishes and once behind your largest neutral upholstered piece.

Why? Stone and flooring reveal whether the paint’s undertone coordinates, but a large sofa or headboard reveals whether the room has enough value contrast. A green may coordinate perfectly with the floor yet make a taupe sofa disappear visually because both colors are similar in depth.

If the edges of the furniture look muddy against the sample, add contrast with a lighter wall color, select a deeper furniture tone or place a light textile between them. This two-location test catches a problem that a small swatch in the middle of an empty wall often misses.

How to Test Behr Grounded Correctly

Do not choose Grounded from a phone screen or a tiny paint chip. Screens, photography and browser settings cannot reproduce paint color reliably.

Use this process:

  1. Order a large movable sample using the exact color.
  2. Place it vertically on the wall, because light hits horizontal and vertical surfaces differently.
  3. Move it beside flooring, cabinetry, countertops, tile and upholstery.
  4. View it in morning, afternoon and evening light.
  5. Check it with your lamps turned on, using the bulbs you plan to keep.
  6. Leave it in the room for at least two full days before deciding.

Designer Tips for Decorating With Behr Grounded

  • Create contrast. Pair Grounded with cream, warm white or pale natural stone so the room does not feel visually flat.
  • Repeat the warmth. Use wood, leather, antique bronze or aged brass to reinforce its brown undertone.
  • Layer the lighting. Combine ambient, task and accent lighting. One overhead fixture is rarely enough in a deep-painted room.
  • Watch the greenery. Live plants may look brighter or cooler against an olive wall. Use fewer, larger plants for a restrained look.
  • Choose the sheen intentionally. Lower sheens soften wall imperfections; satin or semi-gloss can emphasize millwork and architectural details.
  • Edit the palette. Grounded already has personality. It does not need many competing accent colors.

Is Behr Grounded Right for Your Home?

Choose Behr Grounded if you want a room to feel warm, earthy, calm and established. It is especially promising for homes with warm stone, natural wood, cream upholstery and layered organic texture.

Reconsider or test very carefully if your fixed finishes are predominantly cool blue-gray, violet-gray or stark icy white. Also consider the amount of daylight and whether you want the room to feel intimate or bright and open.

The most successful paint color is not simply the most popular one. It is the color that connects your room’s light, fixed finishes, furniture and desired mood.

What are the undertones of Behr Grounded?

Behr Grounded has warm brown undertones. Depending on the light and surrounding finishes, it can move visually between mossy green and olive.

Is Behr Grounded a warm or cool green?

Grounded is a warm green. Its brown and olive qualities make it earthier than blue-green or gray-green paint colors.

Behr states that Grounded is available in its paint products sold exclusively through The Home Depot, online and in stores. Confirm availability in your location.

Should I paint every wall Behr Grounded?

My expert design advice is to test it large, compare it directly with every fixed finish and judge it in changing light. When its undertone and depth are right for the room, Grounded can feel sophisticated, timeless and wonderfully restorative.
