My Fireplace Mantel Reveal // A Before and After Makeover with Paint!

Hello everyone – Happy Friday!

I’m finally revealing my fireplace mantel makeover!  I love how it turned out!

Mantel Makeover in Elegant White from Setting for Four

Do you remember the before?  It was brown stained wood….Boring!

007

 008

Now it’s fresh and white and lovely!

015

017

Here is how I transformed our mantel:

1. Lightly sand the entire mantle with 220 grit sandpaper (wrapped around a piece of wood acting as a sanding block).

006

2. Wipe off dust.

3. Paint: I used Sherwin Williams trim paint “All Surface Enamel 0’ Acrylic in Extra White Semi Gloss….

…..and a Purdy brush (this brand is THE BEST!!)

….and a small roller

I let each coat dry for 24 hours…..

…..3 coats later it was finished!

What a difference! This white paint makeover really makes my mantel decor pop now!

Leather Manhatten Club chairs from Pottery Barn

Here’s the ‘Before’ and ‘After’ again……What do you think?  Do you love the ‘after’ version as much as me??? Painted Mantel Reveal from Setting for Four

Next to do: Drapes!  (I’m thinking light cream colored panels)

…and sconce lighting on either side of the mirror (and moving the floor lamp!)

What color of rod do you think would look best?  Black? Silver?  Let me know what you think!

Psst – have you linked up to Project Inspire{d} Linky Party?  I pin features all week and 1 link goes on 5 blogs!  Fun!

It looks fabulous, Heather! Your mirror is gorgeous, too. I think silver rods would look great since you have the mirror, but I’m not a designer…just my humble opinion.

Wow! It looks so much better painted white!! It’s funny how that little bit of paint makes such a huge impact!! I think either would work really (black or silver). I can’t wait to see your drapes.

    Hi Heather,

Do you know what material was used for your fire place surround? Is it granite? We are re-doing our fireplace mantle & surround and I like what you have!

Hi Amy! Thanks for your compliments!! It’s some sort of tile….not granite. I’m not sure what exactly it is or where it was purchased, the previous homeowners had it done. It’s a very generic common type, beige. There are so many nice tiles out there though – good luck redoing yours!
