I’ve been really enjoying decorating our home for summer the past week! So far I’ve already decorated my newly remodeled kitchen with summery touches, decorated my fireplace mantel for summer and made a new peony Summer wreath for my front door.

Things are feeling brighter and lighter already and it’s a welcome change after this long winter we had!

Elegant living room decorating ideas start with decorating the sofa:

The heart of any living room is the sofa (or sectional!) so that’s where I start decorating for summer! Adding pillows in elegant prints and colors will give your living room an instant summery vibe!

I wanted a blue, white and gray color palette for my living room for summer. Blue is one of my favorite colors and looks so good in interiors in the summertime!

I am obsessed with these gorgeous blue and white pillows! They are outdoor pillows but I love using them indoors too – they are very soft!

Two affordable, elegant navy velvet lumbar pillows add another layer of blue.

Adding a cotton throw with tassels to the sofa is the perfect way to stay warm on cool summer evenings!

Wicker and rattan are having a HUGE design moment right now so I added this gorgeous rattan lantern to the sofa area. I LOVE the color and texture – such a beautiful summer feeling!

Summer coffee table styling ideas

I love decorating my coffee table for the seasons! Styling a coffee table is where you get to display your interests, travels and collections in a beautiful way.

These are my must have decorating accessories for a well styled coffee table:

Design books:

I stacked my beloved design books on each end and the bottom tier. Whether your interests are design, gardening or travel, choose a few coffee table books to create a layered look and show your personality!

Trays:

I also love using trays – this glam mirrored one has been a staple for many years!

Trays corral decor and keep your coffee table from looking scattered and cluttered.

Decorative Boxes:

I love my marbled decorative box for storing and organizing our media remotes, my MacBook Air mouse, ear buds and a pen and pad for jotting down notes before they disappear from my thoughts!

Flowers/Plants:

Adding greenery with plants and or flowers is one of my essential living room design elements.

I usually add some fresh blue colored hydrangeas to my coffee table in the summer but I couldn’t find any at the grocery store so I added a vase of summery white and green artificial flowers to my tray for summer.

When my flowers bloom in my backyard gardens I will add a vase of them to the coffee table too.

Objects

This is where you style your coffee table with your personality, collections, travel mementoes and loves!

I love pineapples (they are the international sign for welcome!) so I added white ceramic pineapple to my tray. This one is lidded so I can use it for storage too!

I am obsessed with marble decor so I also added marble coasters for an elegant look! Every coffee table needs coasters so pick a look you love! Wood, agate or even DIY coasters!

A white crystal agate object and wood bead garland are other items I decorate my coffee table to add texture.

You could add a wood bowl full of travel mementoes like ticket stubs, travel pictures, family pictures.

Design tip if you have little kiddos! Have the kids draw pictures on unlined index cards to keep loose in a wooden bowl for everyone to look at! This is a great way to display kids artwork. Plus they will be so proud that their creations are on the coffee table for friends and family to look at and enjoy. This is also a fun conversation starter when you have guests over!

Or add a decorative magnifying glass or orb to the stack of coffee table books.

Palms and fringed baskets

Nothing says summer like palm trees! This one is artificial – for some reason I can’t keep them alive inside but I have lots of them outdoors on our back patio.

I am in love with these macrame, fringe and tassel basket set I recently picked up and such a great price for the set!
