Bookcase Family Organizer: This bookshelf organizes my kids, my and family and my life! Makes a great piece for a home work space or kids home school area.

Today I am sharing with you one of our family’s organizing secrets: our Bookcase Family Organizer.

See how I organized my family and simplified our lives with the Bookcase Family Organizer! See how I organized my cookbooks and the kid's study and homework supplies all in one place with easy storage ideas!

This bookcase is the hub of our home for organizing various items to keep handy in one place.

See how I organized my family and simplified our lives with the Bookcase Family Organizer! See how I organized my cookbooks and the kid's study and homework supplies all in one place with easy storage ideas!
It’s located in between our kitchen area and family room in our open concept home,  in a central location that is passed by everyone in our family through the day.

Top shelf:

On the first shelf I have my cookbooks, a homework organizer basket containing pencils, calculators, dictionaries and a thesaurus for my boys homework time.

Second Shelf:

On the second shelf are school organizers for each of my boys.
These organizers contain folders for each grade and I have filled each folder with their transcipts, report cards, school photos, awards and a few items they drew or reports/essays they wrote to sort of symbolize what they did each grade.
My youngest who is 12 keeps his textbooks on this shelf too, since he does his homework on the kitchen table.
So everything he needs for his homework is nearby, in this bookcase.
( My 17 year old does his homework in his bedroom so he keeps all of his textbooks and supplies in his room. )

This shelf is home to a second basket which contains hair gel and a brush (for my youngest son who sometimes wants to run out of the house with bedhead!) and sunscreen.

Two magazine holders hold operation manuals for my kitchen appliances and some local tourist information brochures/pamphlets so that on weekends we can just grab a brochure and set a destination for the day!

Bottom Shelf:

The bottom shelf holds more recipe books and 2 Binders containing recipes, one for Breakfast, Appetizer and Main Course recipes and the second binder just for Dessert recipes!

I put my recipes in clear plastic 3 holed sheet protectors and have them tabbed to organize them, for example: one tab for pies, one for frozen desserts, one for muffins ect.

Two pewter vases from Norway, presents my husband brought home for me when he was on a military exercise there a number of years ago.

They have beautiful designs on them – and are perfect for little bouquets of flowers.

These are silk yellow tulips from Michaels – love this color of yellow!

Westmoorland Milk Glass bowl filled with reindeer moss. I love this shade of green!

My  DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Easter Bunny .

Apothecary jar filled with my DIY Pottery Barn Inspired Page Scrolls.

So that’s our Bookcase Family Organizer…do you have a central organizing center in your home?

Lots of places with in the home for him to go and visit. Good idea keeping all the items in the baskets. I do the same! Great “go to” place 🙂

Gotta love neat and organized shelves! Now if I could just get mine to look like that all would be good. I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award so if you could just hop on over to my blog to check out the rules that would be great. Thanks and congrats! 🙂

Isn’t it so nice to walk in and see this all organized and neat! I never get tired of seeing an organized space.

Love my Food & Drink collection too. I call my best friend every time I see it at the LCBO before they run out! I’ve taken to clipping out my favourite recipes and images and then putting them in their own “best of” binder.

    Love your blog!

This a great twist on the family “launch pad” idea. We don’t have to worry about homework supplies yet, but I will definitely have to remember some of your ideas. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love seeing organization! We use an antique drop front desk for most of our family things but we do have a large wipe off wall calendar in our stairwell for all of the family activities as well.

It’s such a great little organizational space. The baskets for homework stuff and hair stuff are perfect for corralling all those extras and keeping it looking neat. And you have a surface just perfect for adding some pretty decorative items. 🙂

    Hi Heather!
I love your bookcase organizer! I would love to feature it on my organizing blog, Organize and Inspire! I would use one or two pictures with full credit to you and a link back to your blog. Let me know if that would be okay.
    Thanks!
