If you are new here and want to get to know a bit more about me – head on over {HERE} to read about our military family lifestyle as well as the adversity and challenges I faced that led me from a career as a Research and Development Scientist to owning my own business and a career in Blogging!
In years past I’ve typically decorated for summer by adding aqua, turquoise and teal blue accents to the neutral black and white color scheme I gravitate to.
However this year this summer color palette I chose is Indigo Blue, Black and Gray- and I must say I really love this color combination!
It all started with this gorgeous indigo blue colored area rug in our living room refresh project.
Since then indigo blue has been flowing into more and more of our rooms! This rich, relaxing and livable blue color looks amazing for summer… and paired with black and gray looks sophisticated, elegant and stylish I think!
My hubby and our two boys love this color combination too – it’s very family friendly!
I’ve also spread my wings into more tribal/global fabrics and prints. I usually decorate with stripes and modern geometric prints but this summer I fell in love with all the new and beautiful ikats, shibouri prints that are so on trend right now!
So let’s dive right into my home tour!
Our front entryway is always the first place I start to decorate for the seasons! I added an oversized faux boxwood wreath to our front door – I love the scale of it! And I’m a bit obsessed with boxwood!
I left my tall black planters as they were for spring and winter – filled with birch poles and curly willow – and added pots of mini white and yellow petunias and blue lobelia around the floor of our entryway for pops of color.
I love these black and white tribal pillows – they add an extra layer of comfort to our wicker chairs!

I added two white geometric shaped pots filled with blue lobelia and a chartreuse trailing plant to our entryway to layer in the indigo blue color that’s in my summer color scheme!
Come on in to my home!
These indigo blue shibori print pillows are so on trend this year. I’ve been seeing them everywhere and had to get a few for our home!
I love the shibori pattern and indigo blue and cream colors. You can see how I decorated our foyer with my indigo blue, black and gray color scheme: the indigo pillows layered with black in the area rug and ikat pillows and our gray wall color.
See all of our paint colors here.
In our family room our black leather tuxedo sectional sofa got a little refresh with indigo colored fabrics and more shibori prints. I added a new gray tasseled throw too – I’m also having a ‘thing’ for tassels right now!
I added a simple bouquet of blue hydrangeas to layer in more blue….
I kept the console table decor the same, but I added a blue throw to the basket of gray pillows to pull the blue from the other rooms into this spot – this keeps the blue, black and gray color palette flowing throughout our home.
….. and here’s our dining room!
As a military family we entertain a lot – it’s part of the military lifestyle to entertain military members from hubby’s unit and any military member who is visiting from another country.
So we enjoy this special spot for big meals!
I love creating tablescapes for the seasons! I added some pretty blue bowls and glasses to our white dishes for a pop of color. More blue hydrangeas make a classic summer centerpiece.
Blue and white napkins and white pineapple accents add another layer of fresh summery-ness.
My bar cart is decked out for some summer fun with pineapples and perrier!
I love trying out new summer cocktail recipes – do you?
Moving on….this is our living room!
I love to decorate our coffee table with trays, coffee table books, bloom filled bouquets and fun accents like a mother of pearl handled magnifying glass.
I made this bead garland last fall. I love the texture and how beautiful it looks on our coffee table.
Indigo colored candles, pillows, area rug and abstract art pop against our gray walls and cream sofa! I feel like I swathed in relaxing blues in this room!
This is a corner of our living room that gets tons of light from the two large windows here.
I pulled the blues over to this side of the room as well – with a pretty shibori tasseled lumbar pillow and a blue and white throw.
I gave our mantel a summer tropical twist with these white ceramic pineapples – which I LOVE! – and more indigo pillar candles.
Our Pottery Barn Manhattan club chairs are so comfy! I layered on gray, black and white striped pillows and some white tasseled throws to lighten them up for summer.
One other thing I’m obsessed with is garden stools! Not only do they function as side tables or extra seating – they just look so amazing! I love the cutwork detail in this garden stool!
Now let’s head out to the gazebo!
We just got our dining table (that we made!) and chairs out a few days ago and I can’t wait to dine out here as much as possible this summer!
Blue dishes, and blue pillows give our gazebo a vacation destination vibe!

Hi Heather,
Love the home tour. I’m curious about that wicker chair you have outside your front entry. How well does it hold up to the elements? Am consider getting a few for my patio.
Thank you.
heather says
Hi Chee – these wicker chairs have held up fabulous – I’ve had them for 2 years now and have left them out all winter long too (our winters are brutally cold ) They are under a covered porch, not directly in the elements. They are very affordable and comfy so I think you’d love them for your patio!
Angela says
I have loved your scheme and have started to incorporate some of it into my home. My husband painted our laundry room Mindful Gray & Toque White, and is currently working on our 1/2 bath in the same colors. I am trying to decide if Mindful Gray would be to dark for our living room, which does not get a ton of light. I can’t make up my mind. Anyway, love following you.
Kelley Nan says
