A Dough Bowl is the perfect container for a table centerpiece! See this quick and easy How to Refinish and Stain a Wood Dough Bowl DIY tutorial to create a farmhouse dough bowl. Instructions and supply list included!
I must confess I have an obsession with wood dough bowls! There is something so comforting about it’s shape and rustic simplicity…knowing that someone held the edges to turn and knead bread for their family….knowing that someone took the time and love to make it out of one solid piece of wood!
In these times of mass manufacturing, veneers and pressed wood, handmade and hand carved items just seem to have so much more meaning.
Actual hands went into making this dough bowl….not motors or computerized plans or assembly lines…just one person and some effort and time.
So I was absolutely thrilled to find a very plain, unfinished dough bowl and give it an easy, quick makeover!
Here’s the DIY instructions and supplies – How to Refinish and Stain a Wood Dough Bowl:

Look at how the stain and wax exposed and accented the beautiful grain and the wood tones! Love it!
I knew the perfect place to showcase it would be my coffee table!
I filled my antiqued dough bowl with a collection of driftwood, feathers and seashells that I collected the last time I visited my home town, which is on the shores of a crystal clear lake.
I love how my dough bowl centerpiece looks with my birch bark candles and white birch logs.
I stacked the birch logs in wooden wine crates and placed them under my coffee table:
I love how this dough bowl pairs with our hardwood floors too!
Every room needs rhythm, balance and contrast.
The birch candles and my Waverly pillows in pretty shades of grey and blue give a fabulous pop of contrast to our leather sectional sofa!
The antique dough bowl DIY adds rustic contrast to our glam chrome coffee table too.
I’m so happy with the combination of modern and rustic design that I’ve created in our living room!
