Make a fabulous Chalkboard Globe in a jiffy with a globe, paint and Scrabble letters! Just 4 easy steps is all it takes to turn an old globe into this beautiful decor accessory. Customize it by spelling out a special word with scrabble letters. The chalkboard paint allows you to write notes or draw pictures too – how fun!

It’s time for this month’s Thrift Store Decor Makeover Challenge: This exciting monthly challenge is to share with you new inspiring ideas and ways to beautifully decorate your home that won’t break the bank! I hope you like what I’ve come up with!

I found this old globe at the thrift store for $3 – the map part of the globe was torn off in places and the finish on the metal stand was a bit rusted. It was super easy to fix up and give it some personality!

This is a great gift idea and DIY decor project to make for your home. Add it to a bookshelf, table, kid’s or teen’s bedroom, playroom, office, media room or den! It would be a great dorm room idea too!

Globe DIY Makeover With Scrabble Letters

Here’s the before with the ripped map and rusted stand:

Take an old globe and give it a beautiful makeover with chalk paint, rub n buff and scrabble letters! www.settingforfour.com

Supplies:

  • Chalkboard paint
  • Metallic Silver Leaf rub n buff
  • Scrabble letters
  • Clear adhesive dots
  • Paint brush
  • Sand paper

Directions:

  1. Unscrew globe from the stand. Set globe aside.
  2. Sand the metal stand until finish is smooth. Remove any dust. Apply silver leaf rub n buff as per package directions.
  3. Give the globe 2 coats of chalkboard paint. Let dry. Place globe back on stand.
  4. Attach scrabble letters with zots. I spelled out the word EXPLORE

I love how it turned out! This is one of my favorite upcycle projects to date!

Isn’t it amazing how an inexpensive thrift purchase can be made into a beautiful home decor accessory that has a boutique look? That’s what makes thrifting so fun – you never know what treasures you’ll find!

You know, since the invention of the internet I no longer see globes anywhere. I swear I used to find them all.the.time. Now that I want one to try my hand at a makeover, they are nowhere to be found. If yours is missing in the morning, it was me. I was just out exploring.
