Have you been to a fabric store recently? I love walking through the isles and seeing all those bolts of home decor fabrics lined up row upon row begging to be touched and transformed into curtains, pillows or whatever you can dream of!
I found a beautiful autumn patterned fabric last year and bought a yard for a someday-project… do you do that too?
Last week I pulled it out of my fabric stash and used it to recover two faded outdoor pillows that needed some refreshing!
These DIY Autumn Pillows are very quick and easy to make and are perfect to add a touch of fall to your outdoor seating.
I used the tutorial found in this Ballard Inspired DIY Pillow post to make these removeable envelope pillow covers:
Materials:
1 yard of outdoor fabric (or amount required to recover the size of pillows you want to recover)
Thread
Scissors
Tutorial:
See this post Ballard Inspired DIY Pillow for instructions to make an envelope pillow cover.
This is a really easy pillow cover to sew! Try making just one and you will be recovering all the pillows you have to update your home for the seasons!
So share: Do you buy fabric to ‘stash’ for some-day projects too?

Heather, I’m so glad someone else does that. I have a stack of fabric that is out of control. But my dirty little secret is that I don’t sew! I have an aversion to sewing due to problems in a Home Ec class in high school. I keep thinking I’ll pull the machine out and give sewing another try. Your pretty pillow may be the inspiration I needed. laurie
Go for it Laurie!!! Thanks for your comments here!
Oh Heather, I have so much fabric piled up it’s almost illegal! And a note to Laura (comment above), glue your self some pillows!! I swear I did! For my front porch! They look awesome! One of these days I’m going to try and glue a shirt!
HaHa! Jaye, you have my problem too! Glue pillows? I’ll have to try that! THanks for stopping by!
Oh this is so cute. I need to make me some pillows!
Thanks Summer! Such an easy tute!
So pretty. I’ve been itching to get into the fabric store, but I’m worried about all the awesomeness I’ll find! It’s a double-edged sword for sure!
Fabric stores are dangerous places Courtenay – so many beautiful choices today!
Love the colours 🙂
The colours and the graphic pattern sold me! Thanks Anne!
YES, I am definitely a fabric-for-someday buyer. I always regret it when I don’t buy a fabric that I love.
The pillow is lovely! I adore the shape (and yes, the fabric too!).
It’s a lumbar shape pillow which used to be a pretty chartreuse green but was really faded…this fabric really perks it up!
Oh..love me some fabrci!! This pattern and colors are amazing!! great job!
I have a bit of fabric left over….wonder what I could make with it???
Gorgeous pillows!…I love the colors and pattern!….I am going to be visiting your area….do you have some places of home decor that you can recommend to me…
