Beginning to Repaint Our Home!

by heather 45 Comments

When we bought our home this past summer, we fell in love with the space; the spacious floor plan, the beautiful hardwood flooring… and knew it had so much potential.

We had ‘that feeling’ right away, that feeling that we could make this ‘our home, our nest’.  Our Realtor told us that within a few minutes potential buyers know if they are interested in buying a home….it’s due to ‘that feeling’, that connection that you get right away.

Since we moved in end-July, repainting has been a top priority…the bright yellow, forest green and burgundy wall colors don’t go with our furniture.  These colors also made the home look more closed-in and dreary.

We were confident that repainting would make a huge difference in the space – and it has with the help of Mindful Gray!!

I am totally smitten with this color.  I am jumping up and down with excitement at how beautiful this color looks on the walls!  Here are some before and after pics!

Hallway after (oops no before shot!):

Once we’ve finished painting and have moved our furniture back into place I will show you more pics!  I promise!

So if anyone is considering painting their space a grey color, try ‘Mindful Gray.  It is the perfect mid-toned gray!

I love the before colours, and was hoping they were the newly chosen ones.. I have always loved colour and am currently contemplating redecorating, but don’t want to give up colour.

I’m glad to hear you love color! I’m a firm believer in decorating your home with the colors you love! We love neutral wall colors and they allow me to switch my decor accent colors and use different holiday colors so they are more flexible than red, yellow or green colored walls!

Hi Heather: I love the grey color–it really refreshed and renewed the interior of your home. Can’t wait to see it all with the furniture in place! When we bought our house, we knew the instant we walked in it that it was the one–you just know when you know! It was so nice to hear from you today over at my blog. How nice of you to invite visiting students in for Canadian Thanksgiving–I remember how much I appreciated it back when I was in school, because I could never make it home for that holiday. Glad you liked the corn and tomato salad recipe, and thank you for following me–I’ve returned the favor! And now I’m off to work on some furniture–hope to have it up on the blog in the next few weeks!

It’s beautiful Tanya! To test the color out in your space do what I did: buy a small sample pot of the color and paint a dollar store canvas…then you have a bigger swatch to work with rather than a little paint chip. And you can move the canvas around from room to room to see how it looks in different spaces and different light!

LOVE the Mindful Gray! I’m using some grays in our house too. We inherited a soft light gray in the living room and I found it works so well in this house I’m doing the color (or variations of it) in other rooms too. I have no idea what color it is because it didn’t say on the can they left. I checked with all the company paint fans I have and it didn’t match any of them. I suspect it was a custom color.

I’m sure the gray will make your home look far more elegant. I like it! 🙂

What color did you use for the trim? I am working on something to go with mindful gray and came across your page. Excellent choice – your home is fabulous!

Thanks for your compliments Jan! We actually didn’t repaint the trim since it was in such great shape – If I were you I would go to your local Sherwin Williams store and ask them what color would go with Mindful gray – maybe a basic white with a 5-10% mindful gray in it would work!

I’m laughing right now because we just bought a house that gave us the same feeling.. and it’s also yellowish, maroonish and olive green! I’m thinking Mindful Gray throughout and maybe Dovetail in the master bedroom? The trim is already white. What color is your master bedroom?

I’m getting ready to paint Mindful Gray in our bedroom. I’m considering using a flat Mindful Gray because I’m afraid if it has any sheen to it that it might look purple or have a color hue. Did you use a satin or eggshell and do you think it gives off any color besides gray? Thanks!!
