DIY Charm Necklace From Earrings

Hello all!  Today I am sharing with you a DIY charm necklace made from a pair of earrings.

This is a quick DIY using a pair of earrings, necklace chain, a charm and beads.

Supplies:

- Necklace Chain 80 inch - Wallmart $3.00
- Leaf earrings - Wallmart $2.88.  This set has a gold leaf and a silver leaf on each earring.
- 4 mm jump rings  - had these, but you can find them at Michaels
- 2 head pins - already had
- Beads - already had
- Small silver spacer bead - already had
- Zodiac Charm - I have had this Virgo zodiac charm since I was a little girl when I used to have a charm bracelet with several charms on it.  The bracelet broke a long time ago, but I kept the charms.  (You can buy charms at Wallmart or Michaels).
- Jewellry mini tool kit (mini pliers and cutters) - I  bought my set at Michaels about 5 years ago.

You can find a similar kit here: Westrim Jewellry Mini Tool Kit at Wallmart for $11.99
-----------
Total cost with tax = $6.17

Tutorial :

- With the wire cutters cut the necklace chain into the desired length.  I cut mine to 24 inches.

- With jewelry pliers, open the hook on both of the earrings to remove the silver colored leaf. (Close this hook back up and now you have a pretty set of gold colored earrings!)

- With a 4 mm jump ring add the silver colored leaf to the necklace chain.

- Create a crystal bead dangle: Take a head pin and add a crystal bead to it.  Cut the head pin so that there is 1/2 inch sticking out from the crystal.  With  pliers form a loop at the end of the head pin so that it can dangle from the necklace chain.  Add a jump ring to the loop you just made.  Visit this link to view more detailed pictures and instructions on how to make a bead dangle with a head pin.

- Create the second bead dangle:  Take a head pin and add a blue bead to it.  Then add the silver spacer bead.  Cut the head pin so that there is 1/2 inch sticking out from the silver spacer bead.  Form a loop at the end of the head pin so that it can dangle from the necklace.  Add a jump ring to the loop you just made.

- Add a jump ring to the charm.  Attach the charm to the necklace by hanging it by the jump ring.

- Add the bead dangles to the necklace.

That's it!  You are done!

Isn't it adorable?  I love it and I'm happy I can wear this zodiac charm again, instead of it sitting in my jewelry box.

Hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and are inspired to make your own DIY charm necklace!

  2. I love it, Heather! This is exactly the kind of jewelry that I am always making myself or buying. Multiple charms add so much more to the impact of the necklace when you wear it.

Thanks for sharing another great tutorial and some beautiful photos! Is the yellow and grey print fabric a tablecloth?

  21. Designer catier watches look sophisticated and stylish. Designer handbags are always light in weight as well as spacious. Now-a-days winter jackets serves not only its practical function, but also is used as a status symbol for emphasizing the user's identity. The miu miu hobo variety that you can get in handbags is tremendous. if you look at the various brands of cheap chanel shopping and you will find that qualities and brands never go parallel to each other. There cheap hermes handbags will be something different with the different products.
