Now onto my Christmas dining room and table decor ideas!
1. Color palette for your Christmas table
Choose a color palette that you love for your holiday home and run it throughout your dining room, buffet table and dining table!
Some popular Christmas colors this year along with silver and gold are the timeless classic red, chic blush pink, timeless rose gold, traditional dark navy and an on trend light blue.
Pick one of these colors as your starting point to build your overall holiday color palette that will flow from room to room.
As you may know, I love neutrals, metallics and shimmer! So this year I’ve decorated my home in mixed metallics using shades of silver, pewter, gold (and more gold!) and champagne!
I balance it out with pops of white to keep the look clean and elegant.
These metallic colors look so pretty with my gray wall color!

2. Consider the seating
It’s so important in my opinion to have comfortable chairs for your guests!
I love upholstered chairs, they are so cushy and the fabric adds texture and color to a dining room.
Think you can’t have light colored chairs with kids and pets? Well you can! See How to Make Your Cushions Stain Proof and Spill proof – it’s the exact trick I used on our upholstered dining chairs and it WORKS!
(Now’s the time to pick up some chairs if you don’t have enough for your holiday company – or the ones you own need replacement. There are so many fabulous sales right now – check them out here!)
Another fun seating idea is to use an upholstered high backed bench on one side of the table – banquette style. I love our oatmeal colored tufted high backed bench that’s in our entryway.
Our chairs and a similar style I love
3. The Christmas Centerpiece
Create a centerpiece as the focal point of your table.
It could be a simple vase of flowers or holiday greenery or a scattering of Christmas balls down the middle of the table.
I love to layer my table centerpiece!
I use this marble runner as the base and add Christmas balls, two glittery deer, pine and cedar greenery and two gold vases of flowers.
These floral centerpieces are so quick, easy and affordable!
I bought one bunch of white mums, divided into two vases and added fresh western cedar and Frasier fir clippings! Done!
They have such a festive divine scent!
4. Place settings for a beautiful Christmas tabletop
Lets talk dinnerware, napkins, flatware and glass ware!
Dinnerware –
Now’s the time to use your Christmas pattern dishes or wedding pattern!
Or go clean and simple like I did here and use white dishes with patterned salad plates!
I love to mix and match my dishes and add different salad plates (that coordinate but are in the same color) on the table ends.
For this table setting I used these white and gold geometric salad plates I bought at HomeGoods and mixed them with my beautiful swirl gold salad plates
Napkins and Napkin Rings –
Keeping with my color palette of metallics I added these gold glimmer cloth napkins (bought from HomeGoods a few years ago – these are similar) and added these gorgeous gold sparkly, jeweled napkin rings.
See 20 Plus Napkin Folding Styles for fun ideas on how to fold stylish napkins!
Instead of napkin rings you could go simple yet beautiful and tie some ribbon around a napkin and adding a sprig of fresh pine or cedar!
Flatware –
I think Christmas is the perfect time to try a trendy flatware color! Copper and rose gold are on trend as is gold!
I love gold flatware for special occasions -This hammered pattern is gorgeous and I use it a lot. I also have this gold pattern and it’s gorgeous too.
Drinkware –
I recently bought these fun black and gold dot coupe glasses at HomeGoods – they are perfect for the holidays for sipping on cocktails and sparkling water!
I also love using stemless wine glasses for water and wine.

5. Buffet, console table or bar cart for dining room storage:
Having an extra surface to hold platters of food, pitchers of water and other beverages is such a great idea when entertaining and hosting Christmas dinner parties!
I love our bar cart (it’s so fun to decorate too – see my Easy Christmas Bar Cart Decor & Styling Ideas).
We use it to store mini bottles of Perrier, flavored waters and wine for our dinner parties.
A console table is another great way to store food for dinner parties and get togethers!
I have ours decorated with garland but when our dinner guests are here I clear it off so we can set platters and bowls of food on.

6. Dining Room Christmas Tree, Christmas Garland and Twinkle Lights
Did you know that you can add a Christmas tree to decorate your dining room even if you only have just 14 inches of space?!
That’s how much room I have in the corner of our dining room and I was able to fit this beautiful 7 ‘ tall flocked slim Christmas tree in this spot!
Having a Christmas tree in the dining room is so beautiful and adds such festive ambiance… and who doesn’t love twinkle lights?
Adding a pre-lit garland on a buffet , console or bar cart is another way of adding Christmas cheer!
