Hello everyone! This weekend my husband and I were invited to a Kentucky Derby Party to celebrate the 2012 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and to watch the race on TV.
We had so much fun!
Here are some of the ladies with their beautiful hats:
And here is mine – which won First Place Prize!
Being Canadian, I styled my Derby hat with some Canadian culture: Red maple leaves, a beaver and a Canadian flag! You can find the tutorial for my DIY Kentucky Derby Hat – Canadian Version! here.
So here is a funny story about the evening…
We played a game at the party where we ‘bet’ on a horse and the person who chose the winner received a prize as well. My horse ‘Trinniburg’ was in 2nd place for most of the race (at the last 10 seconds ended up at the back of the pack!) but I actually thought it might win the race. Anyway, I was so excited, cheering my horse on through the TV and pumping my arms (somehow this was going to help it!), that with all my movements in excitement the beaver on my hat fell off! So classy right?? Ha! Anyway good thing it didn’t take anybody’s eye out or I could have been sued for ‘assault by Canadian beaver’! Ha Ha! Anyway, we had a fun time!
Did you watch the Derby this weekend?
Thanks for coming by for a visit! I’d love to hear your comments! And please, become a follower!
