Hello Everyone!
Today I am still unpacking from our move, which to be honest has not gone well.
I am neck deep in boxes and we have been discovering over the past few days that we have a lot of damage to our furniture and belongings from the packers and moving company that moved us. Big bummer.
Any supportive comments would be so appreciated, since my stress and patience level is really being tested right now! I hope to get some exciting craft and DIY posts up on my blog soon, until then dear readers, I appreciate you all hanging in there with me!

What? Don’t even worry about crafts and DIY right now. Unless that DIY involves regaining your sanity and some kind of sense of normalcy. We did the big move thing a year ago and I remember the frustration. You’ll get through it though, little by little! The best part is: You’re home!!!! Remember that readers don’t at all mind posts about the nitty gritty of real life too. It doesn’t all have to be pretty. Your story is enough to keep us coming back!

Thanks so much Courtenay for your uplifting and sweet comments! I so needed to hear that. I just don’t want my readers to give up on my blog while I am swamped in craziness here. I have moved 12 times in 23 years, so you would think I would be a pro at moving by now, but it never gets easy! This move has been the worst for damages and we are still only about a quarter unpacked, can only imagine what else we will find as we unpack the rest…ugh, not fun. Thanks for the encouragement girl!!!!

It’s been over a year since our move, and we still have unpacked boxes. I’ve thought about throwing them away since I obviously don’t miss whatever’s in them. Don’t be so hard on yourself–moving is difficult!
I’m so sorry about the damage–I agree that you can share that with us, even if it’s just venting. It doesn’t have to be sunshine and unicorns all the time!
Heather says
Thanks so much Starr – you are so sweet! Yes, I agree moving is difficult, especially for a Type A Virgo like me! HaHa!!! I know everything will get sorted out in time….it just makes me sooo frustrated to open a box of table lamps that have not been wrapped in paper or bubble wrap and remove them in pieces….grrrrr…..
I love the ‘sunshine and unicorns’ comment!!! So true!

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that the move did not go smoothly for you 🙁 I know that you will find a way to make the best of it and your readers will wait patiently because you’re such a lovely person and absolutely worth the wait! Hope the rest of the boxes hold much fewer surprises.

Thanks Claire for your uplifing words!!! Yes, we will get through this as we have gotten through other frustrating times in the past….it’s just so frustrating that some people who are in the business of moving simply don’t care. It’s a sad fact. Thanks for hanging in there with me girlfriend, you are sooooo lovely too!!!!

Oh no. I am sorry some of your things were damaged but try and remember, they are just things. At least you and your family arrived safely and undamaged. Perhaps you could use this as an excuse to go shopping or plan an amazing transformation of your damaged furniture.

You are so sweet Amy! I can always count on you to see the silver lining! Yes, they are just things, you are so right about that! Five years from now I will be laughing about this, right???? ….Right????? 🙂

Moving is THE WORST! Sorry you had so much damage. We had lots on our cross country move as well. Drew’s whole office desk was broken. He’s still using my old kitchen table to this day. haha
We still have unpacked bins in our basement, 4 years later. No worries!!
XOXO

My hubs desk was broken in this move too!!!!! I know the feeling of not completely unpacking….we’ve been shuffling unpacked boxes around move to move…a new moving sticker just gets stuck on them each time! Thanks for your encouraging words Meg!!!

Sorry Heather! Boy, have I been there! Always a big bummer when the stuff you like is damaged, and I’m not sure about the Canadian Army, but the US military depreciates your items by # of yrs you’ve had them. In otherwards, if they break your stuff, they don’t give you all that much money back for it. However, I always tried to figure that I would get to find a new item for the stuff that was damaged, or you could research how to make the fixes and blog about all the ways to fix them??
Best of luck unpacking! My thoughts/prayers will be with ya. I know how un-fun it is!

Thanks Katie for the lovely comments! It’s the same for us too, your stuff is depreciated. Ugh. Yes, maybe I can how to blog about repairing my items with Mod-Podge and a glue gun – haha! I so appreciate your thoughts girlie!!

I have moved 8 times since 1988. Some moves have been smoother than others. This past one was the hardest one, but we had the least damage. I think the least damaged because I learned over the years to move what is precious to me all on my own. We also have learned to PAY for packing because then nothing is damaged because pros do the work and their necks are on the line, so the actually loaders and unloaders are more careful too. It seem expensive at first, but if stuff is damaged, it can cost a lot more!! I don’t know or understand your benefits through the military. I would hope that you are well taken care of? Fingers crossed?? Hang in there….after a while you won’t care about the damage. Promise
Heather says
Wow Lesley!! You have moved a lot too! I think its just if you get a couple of people who don’t care and that can happen at any moving company…the packers were contracted from Allied, and there lies a problem too. We will be able to claim damages, but I know from experience its a fight to get an item replaced or even fixed since they just want to do ‘patch it up’ sort of repairs, or argue an item was dented prior to the move, rather than the more costly (to them) option for them which is to replace the item…so that’s where the headache will be, with the claim and with getting items fixed and replaced to our satisfaction…thanks for your sweet words, I know 5 years from know we will be laughing about this! Right?????? 😉

As you an see from all of us who have commented, moving is stressful even under the best of circumstances! It is worse if your things have been damaged. I am sure you are also exhausted and sleep deprived. Try to get some rest (I know, you want everything unpacked, but it will all be there waiting, take care of yourself first) and when you feel up to it,document the damage so you can file a claim.
Don’t worry about posting crafting projects right now, everyone understands what you are going through, and we are still going to be here when you get settled and feel up to crafting and posting again.
I know it all seems overwhelming right now, but I promise in a few months it won’tmatternearly as much. You are right in the middle of it now, so that is hard to believe, I know! At least the actual move is over. Concentrate on the good things about your home and where you are living.
Hang in there!
Big hugs,
Maureen
