This room was so much fun for me to design with my teenage son!

Blogging for me is such a thrill.  To be able to share my DIY's and projects with my bloggy readers as well as link up to parties to see what cool things other bloggers are working on is such a blast!  I love to read each and every comment on my posts.  I love to browse through the other link party posts and drool over the delish recipes, beautiful room makeovers and clever DIY's.  To be featured is always so gratifying to know that  blog readers really really loved something I made or designed or cooked for my family, because I am always so blown away by the creativity that my friends in blogland have!   And when I make a few new bloggy friends along the way as I blog, that is the real reward.

So thank you dear Chrissy at Taylor House Blog for featuring my post today!  And thank you everyone for visiting my blog to take a look at my son's room!

Thank you SO much for coming by for a visit! I love to hear all of your comments!

Vintage Westmooreland Milk Glass

Have you ever heard of Westmooreland Milk Glass?  If you collect milk glass you probably have! It's a type of vintage milk glass made during 1889-1984 by the Westmooreland Glass company located in Pennsylvania, USA.

This is my Westmooreland 'Doric Lace' pattern bowl.  Isn't it pretty?

DIY- Make a College Student Sewing Kit

As I mentioned in this post, our oldest son K is leaving for military college at the end of July for officer cadet training (gosh I will miss him....sniff,sniff).

So, I have put together a couple of 'kits' for him to use while he is away: a sewing kit and a 'college survival' kit.  (I will share the 'college survival' kit in a future post!)

From Army Wife to Army Mom

Big news at Setting for Four today: I am no longer 'just' an Army Wife, I am now also an Army Mom!

Our son K, who is currently a 17 year old senior in high school, has been accepted to military college and the Armed Forces!  We are so excited for him!

We have been holding our breath for the past 5 months waiting to hear if his application would be accepted and if his interview scored well, since it is a small college and very difficult to get in.  We just received the happy news!  It will be such an amazing experience for him, along with his acceptance into the Canadian military, the Army and the ROTP program; Regular Officer Training Program.  The ROTP program provides him with a fully paid 4 year scholarship to military college.  It's such a fantastic opportunity for him!
He also gets paid a small salary while he goes to college and graduates with no debt.....yes, it's a 'good go'!

Joining the military is something he has wanted, focused on and strived for since he was 10 years old.  Hubs is in the military as well, but K's focus on joining has come from his own desire and goals.  Believe me, he has seen the reality of a military lifestyle being the son of a soldier who has been deployed many many times to some pretty crazy places in the world; places of political, social and civil 'unrest' and places of war.  He definitley has seen for himself the sacrifice that is required and the long separations from home that is demanded for training and deployments.  He has also seen for himself what it feels like to be part of something larger than our neighborhood, our community, our city, our country....and he has felt the pride, the feeling of contribution..... Seeing his Dad serve has only resolved a desire he has had to help less fortuneate people in the world and help others live in the democracy and freedom that we so fortunately enjoy.  It has really been amazing to see him, someone so young, be so sure of what he wants to do with his life and what an amazing career he has chosen.

Can you tell I am (just a little bit) bursting at the seams with pride for him?

I have to be honest though because along with the pride and the happiness I have for him that he is on his way to attain the personal goals he has chosen, I am a bit scared as well.  Scared for his safety....as I am finding out through this process, it is MUCH harder to have a son in the military than having a husband in the military......I guess the way I have approached being a 'successful' military wife  in the past (and by successfull, I mean not falling apart when I know that my husband is in a country full of danger at every corner) is by not dwelling on the 'what if's' and focusing on as much 'normalcy' as possible.  I have just 'put in my mind' that hubs was going to be ok every time he left us for deployments, and put on a big ol' smile for my boys and 'carried on'.  Hooah.

But now that my son has joined, I am finding out there is a whole new level of worry to deal with.  I don't know how I am going to do it, but somehow I have to find a way...for K, for our youngest son R, for my hubs and for me.

I have had many years of practice at being an Army Wife.  Wish me luck as I navigate this new territory that I have never been to before...Army Mom.

Last Week's Goodwill Finds

Do you love scouring Goodwill and thrift stores for tableware?  I certainly do!  I love milk glass, stoneware and candlesticks..... and somehow, amazingly scored all three at my local Goodwill store last week!

Two silver plated candlesticks - I just l.o.v.e these!  They were a bit tarnished, but I was able to shine them right up using a polishing cloth.

I love them with my crystal and glass candlesticks in my dining room!

4 Pfaltzgraff White Gazebo dinner plates and 4 salad plates:  These are beauties and in amazing condition!!  Now I am out to collect the mugs and serving dishes too! I am hooked on the beautiful scalloped edges of this pattern!  Who doesn't love white dishes?

2 milk glass vases - So pretty!  See the subtle patterns in both of them?
Picture them filled with big summer blooms!

So that was my Goodwill haul last week!  I still can't believe the luck I had finding all of this in one day!

Do you collect glassware or stoneware?  Have an addiction to vintage/antique candlesticks?  What do you collect?  Please share!

Thank you SO much for coming by for a visit! I'd love to hear your comments!
