Tried and True Color Trios

Are you about to paint a room or thinking of freshening up a space but are stuck on choosing a color palette?

Color is a complicated subject...just look!

Do you stand in front of the paint chip displays in despair on which paint color to select that will be the jumping off point in your room, amongst the sea of paint chips? (Me! Me!)

????

Well, thankfully here is our answer to paint palette dilemmas: tried and true color trios from Sabrina Soto - that high energy design cutie you see all over TV!

Sabrina has published a book 'Sabrina Soto Home Design: A Layer-by-Layer Approach to Turning Your Ideas into the Home of Your Dreams' where she outlines her favorite color trio palettes.

These palettes consist of three colors (called a Color Trio) which coordinate beautifully to give your spaces that high end designer look.

So, how do these palettes work?  You choose a Color Trio and select one color as the wall color, one as the furniture color and the third color for accent furniture or accessories/artwork!

For example:

Color Trio #1: Soothing Satisfaction

Linen, grey, slate

Linen colored sofa, Grey Walls, Slate colored pillows/throw

Pin It

Color Trio #2: Neutral Warmth

 Cream, brown and tan

Cream walls/rug/sofa, Brown chairs and Tan hardwood/blinds/coffee table:

Color Trio #3: Stately Softness

 Teal, ivory and indigo

Teal chair/books, Ivory artwork/molding, Dark Indigo walls:

Which color trio do you like the best?

I have a super big crush on all things Z Gallerie!  Raise your hand if you do too!!

I seriously could just pick up this whole room and plunk it in my home!!!

Isn't this room gushworthy??

....smoochies to this luscious 'slub texured' aqua sofa!:

~~~~
....a random sidenote here...
....maybe it's just me, but don't we all need a little something in our home that is 'slub textured'?
....don't we all want to just say the words 'slub textured'
...don't those two words just sound fancy?
....slub textured....
.....wouldn't it be great to say to your next house guest, "You have to see my new sofa!!  It's 'slub textured'!" ??
....and you and your house guest would both agree that it's the most cushy cozy sofa that you've every seen!
....or wouldn't it be great to say to your husband while rolling your eyes while smiling lovingly "But honey, $1699.00 for a sofa before taxes and shipping is a STEAL becuase it's 'slub  textured'!!!!" ???
....(Really, when will men ever get it????  :D )
~~~~

Ok, let's stop pondering how awesomesauce the words 'slub textured' are and move on to the other pieces in this room!...

Check out this coffee table!  Distressed wood in a champagne finish with mirror insets...drool!
----
....antiqued grey candelabra, what a 'wow' piece with the metal interlocking orbs!
--------
....and this muted blue and grey artwork....sigh!!!!!

This room is completely swoon worthy.....

...wouldn't you just love to sink into this sofa, in this room, with a cup of java or tea, tuck your feet up and read a good book?

...or maybe just contemplate the fact that you actually have, in your possession, 'slub textured' sofa????

...Me too!

3 Musketeers Cookies

Here's a real yummy cookie recipe that has a candy bar surprise center!  3 Musketeers cookies....my family, especially my boys, love them!

Pin It

You can use any chocolate coated candy bar including caramel, malted milk, peanut butter or marshmallow.  I use '3 Musketeers'.

These cookies keep well in an airtight container for a few days and also freeze well.  If you freeze them you can restore them to their just-out-of-the-oven softness by microwaving them for about 15 seconds!

Makes 36 cookies.

Ingredients:

1 cup butter
3/4 cup paked brown sugar
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 &1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1 tsp baking soda
3 candy bars ( I use 3 Musketeers) each cut into 12 cubes
1/4 cup granulated sugar

Make & Bake:

Cream together butter, brown sugar and 3/4 cup granulated sugar.
Beat in eggs one at a time.
Add vanilla.
Sift together flour, cocoa and baking soda, sift into creamed mixture.
Chill dough until firm.
Place 1 tbsp dough in your hand and mould into cup shape in which to place chocolate bar cube.
Shape dough around cube, then roll in sugar.
Place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper (or greased and floured).
Bake in 350 F oven for about 12 minutes or until cookies flatten slightly.
Remove to rack to cool.

Enjoy!

(I made teacher gift bags filled with these cookies for my 13 year old to give out the last day of school last week.  Aren't the tags cute?)

This room was so much fun for me to design with my teenage son!

Blogging for me is such a thrill.  To be able to share my DIY's and projects with my bloggy readers as well as link up to parties to see what cool things other bloggers are working on is such a blast!  I love to read each and every comment on my posts.  I love to browse through the other link party posts and drool over the delish recipes, beautiful room makeovers and clever DIY's.  To be featured is always so gratifying to know that  blog readers really really loved something I made or designed or cooked for my family, because I am always so blown away by the creativity that my friends in blogland have!   And when I make a few new bloggy friends along the way as I blog, that is the real reward.

So thank you dear Chrissy at Taylor House Blog for featuring my post today!  And thank you everyone for visiting my blog to take a look at my son's room!

Thank you SO much for coming by for a visit! I love to hear all of your comments!

What I Love: Mikasa French Countryside Flatware

Hello everyone!  Today I am sharing another post in my series "What I Love"....my Mikasa French Coutryside Flatware.

Pin It

Shopping for cutlery can be difficult with all the choices in patterns, brands and pricepoints on the market.  It can be difficult to choose because we all want value, great looks and durability for our money!  I used to have an extremely inexpensive set from Ikea, but it really didn't stay nice looking for long and became very scratched to the point that I decided a year ago to purchase new flatware.

After visiting tons of retail and online stores for flatware and looking at several different patterns I purchased the French Countryside pattern made by Mikasa.

So bloggers, here is my own personal review and why I love it:

This 18/8 stainless steel flatware pattern is a set my family of four uses everyday.  I purchased 8 sets of 6 piece place settings from Tuesday Morning at a huge discount a year ago.   Each place setting contains a dinner fork, dinner knife, soup spoon, salad fork, teaspoon and steak knife.

If you've never heard of the American company Mikasa, it's a trusted and recognized leader in dinnerware.  For over half a century, quality and workmanship have been synonymous with this worldwide brand.

I love this classic pattern!  It really looks beautiful with my white plates and my Dwell tablecloth and napkins, as well as white linens.

Look at the lovely bead pattern and the tapered handles!

They are very solid  to handle (yet not too heavy); this is a refleciton of how well made they are.

They also are really easy to care for: they wash up beautifully in the dishwasher and since they are made from 18/10 stainless steel, they never need polishing!

I highly recommend this pattern from Mikasa....it is beautiful, durable, kid-proof and diswasher safe!

Do you own any pieces from Mikasa?

Thank you SO much for coming by for a visit!  I love to hear all of your comments!
