Turn Children's Art Into Tea Towels

Do you have piles of artwork that your kiddos have brought home from school, daycare or made at home?  Want another way to display their artwork other than hanging it on the fridge or framing it?

Here's a fantastic way to display your children's artwork in a space we spend a lot of the time; the kitchen!  So turn your children's art into tea towels: your kiddos will feel so special and proud to see their drawings on display.

This would also be an excellent gift for grandparents, aunts, uncles and teachers!  Birthdays, Christmas or 'just because'!

What I Love: My Havaiana's

My Whhhaaaatttt?  This post is about..... flipflops!!!  The. Best. Flipflops. Ever.... in my opinion!  They are called Havaianas (pronounced....hah-vey-ah-nahs...the EY prounced like A).  I have several pair of these and completely love them.

What makes them so awesome is that they are really comfortable and have a reputation on the fashion scene as being the go-to-flipflops of celebrities and women who crave comfort.

As described from the website:

Havaianas sandals are a Brazilian-based company known for comfort, fun and style. These punchy sandals have jolts of colors which make them fashionably hip with a hint of the beach lifestyle.
With a variety of colors for men and women, Havaianas sandals can be seen from the streets to the red carpet.  They are made out of a secret rubber making them oh-so comfortable and ultra-light. Havaianas is a lifestyle brand that has spread around the world. Havaianas sandals are an effortless way of putting some spark into your lax wardrobe while still managing to look your best.

You can buy Havaianas at Designer Shoe Warehouse, Zappos and Piperlime.  (I bought mine a few years ago at The Gap, but  they don't carry them anymore.)

Here are my black Havaianas with a pair of DIY Tulle Flower Clips (tutorial coming!):
Top, Black, $18 - Luv...Simple, Classic black.

and my neutral toned Havaianas:
Top Metallic, Sand Grey/ Light Golden, $18 - this color combo is fantastic... they go with everything!

Here are some other styles I like:

Baby Buggy, 26$ - Celebrity moms collaborated on this style!

Make your own - you can even make your own custom sandals in 4 easy steps...choose your category, your sole, your straps, your crystals and pins!

Kids Speed, Navy Blue, $16 - love the color combo!

Baby Butterfly, 16$ - soooo cute!!

Baby Chic, 17$ - cute stuff for little boys too!

As you can see there are many different styles to choose from and believe me they are VERY comfy and cute!

Do you own Havaianas?  Do you love them too?

By the way, this is the first in a series I will be posting called the "What I Love" blog series.  In these posts I will share with you the items I use everyday or just plain love and highly recommend.  Sort of a girlfriend's 'Product Review'!!!  I will show you how I use these items, information and details on what they are and why I think they are awesome.  Hope you enjoy these future posts!!

And Happy Memorial Day! As a military spouse, I urge you to please take the time to remember those brave souls that lost their lives for country and those who still serve...shake a veteran's hand and thank him or her for their service and sacrifice and if they have family, thank them as well, for they sacrifice greatly too.  Enjoy your weekend!

How to Glam up a Spa Body Wrap Towel

I was at Goodwill last week, heading towards the furniture area, when I passed a rack of clothing and out of the corner of my eye I spotted this brand new Spa Body Wrap Towel, complete with the tags, brand new from Kohls!

Did you know that Goodwill carries new merchandise from Target and other major retail chains?  Yes, they do!  The only thing different from the items at Goodwill compared to what's in the retail store is that the packaging might be missing or damaged.  So the retailer can't sell it and it ends up at Goodwill!  No kidding!

This 'Sonoma' brand spa body wrap was tagged at $4.95!!  A complete no brainer.... Yes, please!!!

I brought it home and decided it was a little boring and being a DIY'er-who-can't-leave-well-enough-alone, had to add something to glam it up a bit and give it a makeover:

I added a sparkly pin that I had in my jewellery cabinet...I have a few of these types of pins from Charlotte Russe that I like to add to my black blazers in my closet.

Next I added some beautiful grey ribbon (from the Dollar Tree) which I tied in a bow.

And voila: Glammed up Spa Body Wrap Towel!

Do you like the 'after' version?

My Space: Dining Room

Hello everyone!  Today I am continuing my house tour with my Dining Room:

My husband inherited this beautiful mahogany dining room set many years ago.

These drapes and chandelier came with the house, we are renting, so they stay up!  Not exactly my taste, but they are fine.....My husband is in the military and renting for 3 years made more sense than buying and trying to resell within such a short time period....since housing prices are still falling in our area of Virginia, I am glad we didn't buy....although being a renter after owning your home for a number of years can be frustrating at times! But you do whacha gotta do!

English Ironstone plates.

This picture shows a partial view of our foyer and the stairs that lead to the bedrooms on the second floor.  To the left is our dining room.  I love the molding on the columns and the cathedral ceilings bring in tons of natural light!

This is a view from our dining room into our living room.   Our home has an open concept floor plan.  You can see a bit of our entertainment center in our living room in this pic.

Another view into our living room.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour of my dining room and if you would like to see more of my home please visit the My House Page of my blog.
