Spring Door Decor from Mother Nature

Hello Everyone!

I have seen all sorts of beautiful DIY spring wreaths in blog land this year.  You bloggers are so creative!!  I usually put a spring wreath on my front door too, but this spring I won't be putting one up....

And this is why:

I have new houseguests at chez Setting for Four.......

I really don't understand why they picked our front door....they must realize by now that 12 year old and 17 year old boys are not able to shut the door quietly!  Oh Dear - those little eggs risk being scrambled!

So instead of a front door sporting a beautiful spring wreath like this:

At first glance my front door decor looks like One Hot Mess!  Like this:

But I just can't take my basket down now!!

I don't miss my spring wreath much at all ! But it's 'all good' because needless to say, watching these cuties is pretty darn exciting. My boys love to check on the nest's progress every day and I can't wait to see the babies!!!

It's like watching Wild Kingdom on my front doorstep!!

Have you ever had an unexpected visitor from Mother Nature at your home?

Update:   Now there are 4 eggs!

Styling a Sofa Table

Hello everyone!  Hope you had a great weekend!  Today I am sharing with you how I have styled my living room sofa table.

Having the sofa table behind our sectional in our open concept living room/kitchen really helps to define the living room area.  The drawer is a handy spot to store our notepads, keys, cell phones ect.  Although we have two end tables, the sofa table gives us a great spot to put our drinks on when we are snuggled up in the corner of the sectional.  I love the shelf at the bottom too, perfect for storing extra pillows and decor books.

Project: About Me

The other day, I just got the cutest email from a blogger I had never met, Heather at Inspire Me Heather .   I love how you get to meet new people through the blog world!!
She tagged me in a fun little question and answer game. Today I’m going to ‘tell all’ as I answer her questions then I'm going to ask 11 more bloggers to participate with 11 questions that I've got for them!

Here's how this little blogging game goes:

RULES
1. You must post the rules!
2. Answer the 11 questions the tagger posted for you , and then create
11 new questions to ask the people you’ve tagged.
3. Tag 11 people and link them in your post.
4. Let them know you’ve tagged them.

Why did you start your blog?
I moved from Canada to Virginia two and a half years ago and tried unsuccessfully to re-enter the workforce here; this area currently has very high unemployment with many businesses and organizations closing.  As well, I didn't know a soul here and my husband travels 1-3 weeks for 10 months out of 12 every year.  Yes, he is only home two months a year!  It's kind of crazy!  So I needed an outlet to make friends, to learn something new and focus my creativity and analytical mind (my background is Product Development and Research and Development as a Microbiologist).

Blogging fulfills all of those things.  I seem to learn something new just about every day and love the technical end of it as well. I have made many friends who have freely given me tips and advice on the ins and outs of blogging - its a wonderful community!

What has been your most popular post?
For most pageviews it has been My Space: The Foyer.
For most comments it has been my Ballard Design Inspired DIY Pillow.

What would be the best piece of advice on blogging you could give?
Have fun and it will show!  Your readers will embrace your blog if you show enthusiasm :)

What was the best piece of advice on blogging you have received?
Link your blog to Pinterest - this will help drive traffic and grow your blog when you are starting out.  After you complete a DIY, redecorate a room, make a recipe or create a tutorial, Pin it onto your pinboards so that other pinners can see it and repin.  This will drive traffic back to your blog as well.

Do you blog in the morning, in the afternoon, or at night?
Very early in the morning and late at night.  And sometimes in between...really clear right ;)

What is your favorite blog to read?
Centsational Girl.  I love the DIY's she features and beautiful photos she takes.  I mean, this smart lady's latest project was to rip the bathroom vanity off of the wall, add furniture feet to it and repaint it to look like a free-standing Pottery Barn turned leg console!
If your blog design could look like someone elses, who's would it look like?
I actually like mine :)  Still tweaking it here and there though...

How would you describe your decor style?
Its Classic/Traditonal meets Global meets Modern, so I guess I would call it Eclectic.  Eclectic Design involves a mix of period pieces and a mix of styles - a little contemporary mixed with antiques and a splash of global elements blended with traditional thrown into the mixI buy what I love and I love many different styles.  Somehow it all just works.  The key is to edit.  I believe furniture, art and decor need some space around them to breathe, to shine on their own while allowing them to compliment other things around them.  It's definitely not a matchy-matchy decor style!

What decor trend are you just not liking and why?
70's style uphostery...From the viewpoint of a Mom with two boys, I am just not loving the concept of top to bottom uphostery on the arms like this:

What is your next DIY project?
To finish some canvases I bought at Goodwill and primed white with Zinsser primer, and make a gallery wall.  I need to visit Pinterest and narrow down ideas on what to do with them.  Anybody have any helpful ideas for me?

What was your favorite DIY project?
So far, my favorite has been my  Pottery Barn Inspired Love Votive Candle Set.

My version:

Pottery Barn's version:

I saw them in the PB catalogue and thought - I can make those!  It was fun to figure out how to make them without any instructions.  I love problem solving and designing from scratch in that way - again my Product Developement and R and D background helped me out!  Then I wrote a tutorial for it and posted it on my blog. It was surprisingly easy and inexpensive.  I love to have the look, without PB's pricetag!

I am tagging the following 11 people:

Lisa at The Sweet Talk Shop
Katie at Creative Living
Sherri at Sherri Cassara Designs
Tara at Tales of a Trophy Wife
Jean at Flower Hill Design
Debbie at Visual Eye Candy
Lori at Mama with a Dash of DIY Drama

To answer these 11 questions:

1.  How long have you been blogging?
2.  What do you love about blogging?
3.  What do you do when you have blogger's block and can't think of a new post?
4.  What is your favorite room in your home and why?
5.  What is your favorite book/author?
6.  What is your favorite band/singer?
7.  Florals or graphic prints?
8.  Who is your favorite interior designer?
9.   What is your favorite HGTV show?
10.  What is your go-to easy dinner recipe?
11.  What was the last thing you pinned on Pinterest?

Have fun with this tag game ladies!
