You may have heard a lot of buzz lately in the blogosphere about blog post stealing and scraping.
Some of you may be asking 'What is scraping?'
Blog scraping is the process whereby individuals, known as scrapers, use automated software to scan through a large number of blogs searching for and copying blog content. The scraped content is then used on spam blogs or 'splogs'. The scraper's site then benefits from the key words copied and stolen, benefiting their search engine ranking!
Also, and this is scary, the scraped content can appear on any splog or RSS fed spam site including those that promote pornography or other offensive content. This of course damages the original author's reputation! So not only do blog post scrapers benefit from our hard work for their financial gain, they can harm an unsuspecting blogger's character and offend their cherished readers.
To protect our blogs and our efforts many bloggers are now truncating their blog posts and feeds. Truncation is the shortening of a post from it's full version to a shortened version.
This week my truncated posts and feeds will display the beginning sentences of the post then will display a 'Continue Reading' link, which I hope you click to continue to read my full posts!
I know it seems like a pain in the buttoosky to click one more time to read my full post. If there were any other way to get around this problem I, along with other bloggers who are trying our best to deter the theft of our work, would be inplementing it.
or my favorite post Turn Children's Art into Tea Towels!
Be sure that I value each and every one you!! I treasure the time that you, dear readers, spend on my blog, your feedback, your friendship and I really hope I don't lose any of you out of frustration. I hope you will all understand and continue to read my blog, say hello when you do and share your amazing comments!
