How to paint a clear glass vase – easy DIY home decor project to hold flowers. This DIY painted vase has a high end look and inexpensive to make!
Easy and Inexpensive DIY Painted Vase
– White paint oil based. The reason I used oil paint is because it’s more durable than latex. I used paint in a can, not spray paint, since it’s easier to get to the bottom of my tall vase and covers better than spray paint does.
– Artificial cherry blossom branches or other artificial flowers or artificial greenery.
– Paper towels.
Tutorial:
– Wash and dry the inside and outside of vase.
– In a ventilated area, pour white oil paint into vase: pour paint down the inside of the vase in several places to cover the vase.
– Once paint pools at the bottom (this won’t take long) turn vase upside down and allow the paint to run back towards you to cover the areas that were missed, so that the entire vase is covered.
– Place vase upside down on several paper towels in a ventilated area. Leave vase like this until the paint stops running out of the vase. This took about 1 day.
– When the paint is no longer running down the sides, turn the vase right side up and let dry. This took 2 days.
– When the vase is dry you can insert branches or flowers as desired.

Your vase looks great with those pretty branches! I just painted a vase white yesterday… I’m wishing now I had used oil paint, because that’s a really smart idea!

So sleek and sophisticated! Love it! Isn’t it amazing how different a vase or jar looks when you swirl paint inside it? I bet the shape of this is much less frustrating to cover with paint than the narrow mouthed jars that I keep choosing 😉 I have never worked with oil-based paint before. Is this the kind that you could use water with if you wanted to?
Happy weekend, Heather!

Definitely bleak to chic. I love it! I see vases like this ALL the time at Goodwill for $1. I’ll have to add this to my ever growing list of projects to attempt.

Such a great idea! I really would like to try this and since we’re moving into a new space, I think I might. The vase looks so fresh and spring-like. Love the flowers you chose for it too.
Take care,

So pretty! I just bought a vase at Target that could use some dressing up– this might be just the trick I need. Thanks!

This looks great. I recently finished painting some vases white, but I used spray paint and I think the way you did it looks better, I’ll have to try that next time! Thanks for sharing over at The Winthrop Chronicles!
